Connecting with college students

Our engineers participated in three college drilling demonstrations during the 2023-2024 school year. Making connections with students interested in our industry is one of the ways that we demonstrate our commitment to our profession.

UMaine drilling demonstration – September 2023

Early in the school year, our Bangor, Maine office teamed up with Dr. Aaron Gallant at the University of Maine to provide civil and environmental engineering students with the opportunity to see a drilling rig in action. Senior Geotechnical Engineer, Nate Strout, led the demonstration.

In March, team members from our Somersworth, New Hampshire location visited the University of New Hampshire to demonstrate drilling techniques for a civil engineering soils class. Tyler Demers, Project Geotechnical Engineer, and Sean Hlywa, Staff Geotechnical Engineer, both participated in this event.

UMass Dartmouth drilling demonstration – April 2024

Team members enjoyed connecting with civil engineering students during a drilling demonstration at University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Aaron Smart, PE (Senior Geotechnical Engineer in Somersworth, New Hampshire) demonstrated some of the work our engineers do when they are out with a drill crew.

We are proud to be inspiring the engineers of tomorrow, and we look forward to more drilling demonstrations during the upcoming school year!
