Culture Champion: Nate Strout
We are excited to announce our inaugural Quarterly Culture Champion: Nate Strout, P.E., Senior Geotechnical Engineer in Bangor, Maine. This recognition celebrates individuals who exemplify our CORE VALUES (commitment, integrity, quality and leadership) and actively foster a collaborative team environment. After collecting nominations since July, our selection team is proud to honor Nate as our first quarterly recipient.
Nate’s attention to detail, thoroughness, organization, and communication are the epitome of the desired traits of a Project Manager at S.W.COLE. Despite managing a challenging workload, Nate remains consistently responsive to his peers, direct reports, and leadership. He keeps everyone informed, so you are never left wondering whether he is on top of his responsibilities.
As a supervisor, Nate consistently makes himself available to answer questions, no matter how big or small. He creates an environment where younger engineers feel comfortable seeking guidance, knowing their questions are always valued. His supportive approach helps new team members build confidence and excitement for their professional growth.

Stepping outside his comfort zone, Nate volunteered for a leadership role in ASCE Maine. This past spring, he presented the ASCE Maine public infrastructure report card at multiple public events and was quoted in industry publications statewide. His active participation in professional organizations reflects the culture of engagement established by Steve Cole 45 years ago. Nate’s growth in public speaking and networking not only benefits his career but also enhances S.W.COLE’s reputation in the engineering community.
Nate’s dedication to our core values, his commitment to mentorship, and his willingness to represent S.W.COLE in the broader engineering community make him a truly deserving recipient of our first Quarterly Culture Champion award. We are proud to celebrate Nate’s achievements and grateful for the positive impact he has on our team and company culture. Congratulations, Nate!
