S.W.COLE acquires Rhode Island Engineering Firm
To operate as new “Aldinger & Associates” division.
East Providence, Rhode Island, May 19, 2023: New England-based, S. W. Cole Engineering, Inc., (S.W.COLE) announced that it acquired Paul B. Aldinger & Associates, Inc. (PBA) of East Providence, Rhode Island. Paul Aldinger founded PBA in 1990 to provide geotechnical engineering and laboratory testing services to clients in southern New England.
Steve and Wendy Cole founded S.W.COLE in 1979. The 44-year-old firm has about 140 team members at 9 offices across New England. S.W.COLE provides geotechnical engineering, subsurface exploratory drilling, construction materials testing, and special inspections services. S.W.COLE hired 4 geotechnical engineers from Paul B. Aldinger & Associates, Inc.
According to Robert E. Chaput Jr., P.E., CEO of S.W.COLE, the new entity will be Aldinger & Associates and will operate as a division of S.W.COLE. Chaput noted that Paul Aldinger, founder of Paul B. Aldinger & Associates, Inc. will continue to work at the firm.
“Aldinger clients can expect to see a continued focus on our core geotechnical engineering services,” Chaput stated. “As a division of S.W.COLE, the East Providence office will have expanded geotechnical engineering, construction materials testing and subsurface exploratory drilling capabilities, and a network of offices and team members throughout New England to help efficiently cover our client’s projects.”
S.W.COLE also provides subsurface exploratory drilling services from 4 locations in New England, including Riverside, RI. Each of S.W.COLE’s nine offices have laboratories that provide physical testing of concrete, soil, aggregates, and asphalt.
“Aldinger & Associates now has access to S.W.COLE’s exceptional menu of construction materials testing and exploratory drilling services through the S.W.COLE
acquisition,” Paul Aldinger noted. “This new chapter in our firm’s history really opens up a lot of possibilities for our existing and future clients.”
The Aldinger acquisition marks S.W.COLE’s second foray into Rhode Island in the past year. The firm acquired Geisser Engineering of Riverside in May 2022, which also operates as a division of S.W.COLE.
“S.W.COLE has a history of performing project work in Rhode Island and Southeast Massachusetts, so it was only natural to expand our geotechnical engineering capabilities in this region,” explained Chad Michaud, P.E., COO of S.W.COLE. “Rhode Island has a very lively market for our firm’s services, and our Team is looking forward to joining forces with Aldinger & Associates.”
Aldinger & Associates will relocate to 227 Wampanoag Trail in the Riverside neighborhood of East Providence, RI by June 1, 2023. The contact information for Aldinger & Associates and S.W. Cole Engineering Inc.:
