S.W.COLE acquires Rhode Island Geotechnical Engineering and Construction Testing Firm

70-year-old engineering company will be new “Geisser Engineering” division

Riverside, RI June 20, 2022: S. W. Cole Engineering, Inc., headquartered in Bangor, Maine, has acquired Geisser Engineering of Riverside (East Providence), Rhode Island. George J. Geisser, Jr. founded Geisser Engineering Corporation in 1953. The firm provided engineering and construction testing and inspection services to clients on projects primarily in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
S. W. Cole Engineering Inc. was founded in 1979 by Steve and Wendy Cole. The 43-year-old employee-owned firm has 7 offices in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont, and provides geotechnical engineering, construction materials testing, and special inspections services. S.W.COLE hired the Geisser Engineering Corporation employees and expects to employ about 120 total team members in New England.
According to Robert E. Chaput Jr., P.E., S.W.COLE CEO and President, the new entity is Geisser Engineering and will operate as a division of S. W. Cole Engineering, Inc. Chaput noted “Geisser clients can expect to see growth of our core construction materials testing, special inspections and geotechnical engineering services,” Chaput added. “As a division of S.W.COLE, the Geisser Engineering office in Riverside will have expanded geotechnical engineering and construction testing capabilities, and a network of offices and team members throughout New England to help efficiently cover our client’s projects.”
All of S.W.COLE’s offices have laboratories that provide physical testing of concrete, soil, aggregates, and asphalt. The firm’s technicians provide special inspections and field testing (QA and/or QC) of construction materials for buildings, roads and bridges, airports, water and wastewater projects, industrial and manufacturing projects, and energy generation and transmission projects, throughout New England.
S.W.COLE has completed acquisitions in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont during the past 15 years. The Geisser Engineering acquisition marks S.W.COLE’s first branch office located in Rhode Island. The firm acquired Tibbetts Engineering Corporation of Taunton, Massachusetts in 2017.
